A note from the maker

Slow Light

I made Slow Light so I could have something quiet playing while I worked, and so I could hear a progression before opening a session. Type a few chords and they become a slow, warm bed. Leave it running in the background, or play over it.

There is nothing to sign up for and nothing is recorded. Take your time. Headphones help, and the Guide is always one tap away.

A slow, warm place for your chords

Slow Light turns a line of chords into a soft, evolving bed of sound, right in your browser. Type Bbmin | Gbmaj | Abmaj, press Begin, and it plays for as long as you like: slowed down like a tape machine, washed in delay and reverb, under a sky that shifts color with the mood of the music.

There is nothing to sign up for, nothing is recorded, and the beds are original sound made live in your browser.

What people use it for

Focus and deep work

A quiet, unhurried backdrop with no vocals, no beat, and nothing to react to. Leave it running in a tab or install it and let it sit in the dock.

Falling asleep

Set the sleep timer for 15 to 90 minutes. The sound fades out gently at the end and stops by itself, so you don't have to.

Writing and trying progressions

Hear a progression as a lush bed before you open a session. Change a chord, listen, change it again. Move the key, the scale, and the tape speed until it feels right.

Practice and play-along

Put a slow bed under your guitar, keys, or voice and improvise over it. Slow the tape for a calmer feel, or open the filter for something brighter.

How it works

  1. Write a line. Chords go between bars, like Bbmin | Gbmaj | Abmaj. A chord needs a color: min, maj, 7, maj7, add9, sus.
  2. Press Begin. The chords become a slow, arpeggiated bed with pad, line, shimmer, and low notes.
  3. Shape it. Tape speed, delay, reverb, brightness, voice, and space are all sliders. Evolve can nudge the sound somewhere new every couple of minutes.

Questions

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up and no login. If you buy the unlock you get a key to keep, which restores it anywhere.

Does it record or upload anything?

No. The sound is generated live in your browser. Saved beds stay in your browser on your device. A share link carries the bed's settings inside the link itself.

Does it work offline?

After your first visit, yes. Install it (the Install button, or your browser's install option) and it opens like an app. On iPhone or iPad, open the Share menu in Safari and choose Add to Home Screen.

Will the sleep timer stop my phone's audio?

The timer fades and stops Slow Light. Phones can pause web pages when the screen is locked, so for sleep it's most reliable with the app installed and the screen left on, or dimmed.

What do stems give me?

The pad, moving line, octave shimmer, low notes, and a full mix, each as a separate WAV file of the same length from the first second, packed into one zip. Drop them into any music software and they line up.

Is it a subscription?

No. The unlock is $8 once.

Can I use the unlock on more than one device?

Yes. Your key works on up to 3 of your devices. If you get a new phone or computer, you can remove an old device from the Key panel and use the key on the new one. Lost your key? Press any starred feature, choose Lost your key, and we'll email it to the address you paid with.
